Sometimes it’s hard coming up with great tasting paleo diet snack ideas. You know, for the past few weeks I had the same paleo snack meals!

One day I would be eating sliced carrot dip in salsa sauce, the next day carrot with cumin dip…I always rotate between those two snacks and after awhile, I just felt like puking each time I see a bowl of salsa or cumin dip!

Listen, this doesn’t have to happen to you!

No way am I going to let my fellow “modern caveman” suffer as I have suffered! We modern caveman diet followers must stick together – help each other out for the greater good of the planet….

It’s us against them darn it!

Alright, sorry! Sorry! I got carried away a bit because I’ve been watching quite a lot of “us against them” type of movies lately…

Anyway, you don’t have to worry about coming up with some palatable paleo diet snack ideas. See, not only am I going to show you how to make 2 astonishingly good paleo snack meals, I’m also going to provide you a link to a site where you can obtain a collection of paleo diet cookbooks.

The cookbooks are great because they contain all kinds of paleo meal recipes with photos and step-by-step directions included. You can check out the cookbooks (downloadable) after these 2 recipes.

Alright let’s go…

Paleo Diet Snack Recipe #1

Tasty Sunflower Seed Dip with Sliced Carrots

You’ll need: 1 cup of sunflower seeds, juice from half a lemon, a bit of garlic powder, ½ cup of fresh dill, about 8 tbs of water, a bit of organic kelp granules (salt alternative) and ground black pepper to spruce up the taste.

Directions: Dump all ingredients in a food mixer. Now blend away until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

Dip some sliced carrots into the mix. Yummy stuff! You can dip with other type of veggies of course. I dipped some broccolis in it and they tasted great too!

Paleo Diet Snack Recipe #2

Coco Walnuts Milk

You’ll need: 1 ½ cup of cacao powder, 1 cup of walnuts, a dash of organic kelp granules, ¼ cup of agave nectar, seeds from a vanilla bean, and 4 cups of fresh young Thai coconut water.

Directions:

• Put walnuts and coconut water in a blender and blend until mixture becomes smooth. Next, grab a nut-milk bag and strain the mix through it. Throw away the pulp. Pour milk back into blender.

• Put the remaining ingredients in the blender and blend together with the strained milk until smooth.

There! 2 absolutely delicious paleo diet snack ideas inspired from a set of digital cookbooks that I downloaded weeks ago.

As promised, here’s the link where you can get those cookbooks.

Usually we are told to avoid getting hungry while dieting. Most people eat at the first sign of hunger pains. I’m going to explain why this is not always the best way to get fast weight loss results. Allowing yourself to occasionally get hungry will speed up your fat loss, and hunger pains are not always bad for you.

Getting Hungry is Good!

When we are really trying to drop those last 3 or 4 pounds (maybe you’re getting ready for a great vacation?), we need some reminders that getting hungry is okay. Sometimes those last couple of pounds make all the difference in the world if you’re hoping for nice sharp cut abs! But, it takes some will power and commitment to do this, and it’s not always easy!

“Old” Ideas About Dieting Are Not All Bad

Back in the 70s, everyone thought that dieting meant only getting hungry, starving ourselves. Sometime during the 80s, we were being told to just keep eating small meals all day. You know, “eat six small meals a day.” In theory, this is supposed to keep your metabolism running high. Good theory, but people don’t really use it right. Sometimes the old ways (getting hungry) will yield much better results.

How Does the “Six Small Meals” Work For You?

I have to tell you, eating six small meals per day has just never worked for me. I just can’t get lean by eating all the time. Although it’s supposed to raise your metabolic rate, you always have “food energy” to burn. Any exercise that you do just burns that food. There’s no way to burn the stored energy (a nice way of saying body fat). Your body just won’t burn that extra fat if you are constantly feeding it food

Kids Are Always Hungry!

Kids can run around like crazy, playing all day, and never get hungry. That is, until they stopped moving, then look out! But, all of these active kids have good muscle tone, no spare tires, and plenty of energy, right? Keeping busy having fun seems to keep their metabolisms running just fine, without storing any extra fat.

“…But Don’t Kids Have Higher Natural Metabolisms?”

This might be true, but, really kids probably just don’t eat as often or as much as adults. And, less often when they are doing outdoor fun activities. Of course, children who just sit around and eat all the time do have weight problems. The video games, the Internet, these things keep kids nearer to food (often junk food). This happens to adults who sit at a desk all day, too.

“Getting Hungry” Will Get You Lean

If you really want to get nice and lean, then don’t feed yourself at the first sign of hunger. This does not mean that you should starve yourself at all. But, letting yourself feel hungry is not all bad. When you are feeling hungry, your body will begin to burn some of it’s stored energy (again, a nice way to say body fat). Doing cardio workouts when you are a little hungry will force your body to burn some of it’s reserves, making you leaner. This is how you can lose a little more weight more quickly and see those visible results.

By: Rusty Moore

About the Author:

Soul food recipes is going into the new year with a new attitude and the attitude is leaner and meaner. With more consumers demanding a healthier diet, this popular southern cuisine continues to clean up its act. Long criticized for it’s high calorie, fat, salt and sugar content, but love for it’s taste soul food continues to reinvent itself to adapt to a changing public demand.

Now you can find more health friendly ingredients in the recipes. With the elimination of artery clogging ingredients such as fat back and ham hocks, often used to add flavor to vegetables and beans, more cooks use smoked turkey, turkey bacon, turkey ham or turkey sausage instead. These items contain up to 85-90% less fat than it’s predecessors. In addition, more dishes are prepared by steaming, roasting, sautéing and stir frying as opposed to the less healthy deep frying. This helps to preserve the flavor but more importantly the valuable vitamins and minerals contained in vegetables.

One of the biggest challenges faced by soul food recipe cooks is to increase the health benefits as well as the taste. Now that challenge is being met better and better as more creative cooks are discovering and including more natural and healthier ingredients in their dishes. For example, natural herbs and spices are slowly replacing butter, salt, fat. Lemon and lime juice as well as apple cider vinegar are examples of liquids many cooks are using to flavor their dishes and add the health element at the same time.

In addition, natural herbs and spices help to add flavor without the health dangers of the past. For example, healthier seasonings like onion and garlic powder, rosemary, bay leaves, oregano, tarragon, peppers and a host of other flavor enhancers help to make today’s healthy soul food recipes leaner, meaner and tastier. With the work of creative cooks the future looks bright for this popular southern food favorite.

By: Roy Primm

About the Author:

While researching for a topic that is always on our minds, yet a very few of us really do something about it, “Work-Life Balance”, I came across the transcript of Steve Jobs commencement speech at Harvard in 2005. What he said made me realize what goes in his mind and how he feels things.

I must have watched this video a couple of years back, however, the transcript got me cornered!

This is how icons and people who have been able to change the world think. With their thinking and the will to do something about it, they have been able to achieve everything that you and I could only dream about. And even THAT we don’t do… Because…Loag kya kahengay! What will people think. To know more about dreaming big, please read my earlier post, ‘Do people laugh at your dreams?’.

Steve dropped out of college and yet made it big. He says, I never graduated from college and this is the closest I have come to a college graduation.

I’d like you to click on the link here & read the transcript, or click here to watch it on Youtube.

He tells 3 stories about his life.

1. Connecting the dots

He says do whatever you love doing. In the end the dots will connect. He learnt calligraphy in college and dropping out of everything that he was supposed to do. In his words:

“It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms. I returned Coke bottles for the five-cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on.”

2. Love and Loss

Most of us know that Steve Jobs was kicked out of Apple when he was 30. Imagine being fired from a company that you created in your parents garage which made it big to a US $2 billion company.

He says: ”I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything.

It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods in my life. During the next five years I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife.

Pixar went on to create the world’s first computer-animated feature film, “Toy Story,” and is now the most successful animation studio in the world…

Apple bought NeXT and I returned to Apple and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance, and…

Lorene and I have a wonderful family together.”

Makes sense? YOU think you are a failure? At what age? Lost everything? RETHINK!

3. Thinking of Death Makes You Follow Your Heart!

Steve got diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. “I didn’t even know what pancreas was!” Yet, luckily it was a rare kind which could be cured through surgery. In his words:

“When I was 17 I read a quote that went something like

“If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.”

It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important thing I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life, because almost everything–all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure–these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

And his famous words:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

In the end, he says he read this at the back of an old magazine 40 years back which said:

‘Stay Hungry… Stay Foolish.’

“And I have always wished that for myself, and now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Stay hungry, stay foolish.”

This is a must read for everyone. Means everyone!

So, please take time out and read the whole transcript or watch the video. You won’t regret it, I promise.

Nahi to paisey wapis!

God bless you.

Dare to dream…

Follow your passion…

Kal ho na ho…

Nuruddin Abjani

By: Nuruddin Abjani

About the Author:

Soul food cookbook back in style? Yes! Because of the economic downturn of late, more people are eating more meals at home and saving money in the process. That means more people from the fast food generation of the past are learning how to cook, many for the first time. This has caused a renewed interest in cooking in general and recipes in particular. Because of the ease of preparation and the comfort food feeling it gives, the interest in southern food is growing fast. The south has risen again, at least when it comes to recipes and cooking.

Soul food cooking has emerged as a skill of renewed interest to many African American families who continue to look for ways to stretch their food budgets. “When times were the toughest for our ancestors, they knew they could always turn to their traditional food for comfort and economic stability. Our great grandmothers and grandmothers always new how to stretch a meal, now the recession is forcing us to take another look at how they did it,” says Martha Hastings, former Howard University, Black History Professor.

Soul food cookbooks continue to experience a surge in interest as evidence of this growing trend. With today’s health conscious consumer, more cookbooks are changing to meet that challenge. Many of today’s southern recipe books have eliminated the unhealthy ingredients associated with soul food of the past. For example, many have excluded high-fat pork products, which also contains large amounts of sodium.

You’ll find more recipes containing more natural seasonings and spices to satisfy the increasing numbers of people watching their health and their diets. These changes is quickly changing the cooking landscape when it comes to southern food. No doubt more soul food cookbook publishers are watching the sales figures closely to see if the upward trend continues. Stay tuned!

By: Roy Primm

About the Author:

In a nutshell let’s get the facts straight about food hygiene certificates, and answer your questions about finding the food hygiene course which is the most suitable for you. Yes, a food hygiene course taken online will be accepted by an Environmental Health officer and by local authorities. They are specifically designed to help you meet the legal requirement for food handlers. No, you don’t have to go to a local college or sit in a classroom to achieve your food hygiene certificate; you can take it online and sit back while your new food hygiene certificate finds its way to you through the post.

How do I know which course to take?

That’s easy. One simple rule:

If you make food to be sold, or sell food directly…

…You need the Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate for Catering.

It’s the most popular course by far, be sure to bear in mind that Environmental Health will be looking to see that you have refreshed your food hygiene training every 3 years!

What’s the law?

It’s fairly straight forward.

Many people have doubts over whether their local authority, council, or specific company will accept their food hygiene certificate, and are looking for a guarantee that their Food Hygiene Certificate will be accepted. The bottom line is, that in doing this training, you have met the legal obligation.

The Environmental Health officer is looking to see that food handlers are appropriately trained, and if you don’t have 2-3 hours for food hygiene training and you are at risk of failing your Environmental Health Officer inspection.

By: Vincent Norland

About the Author:
